Medical intervention involves a ‘medical titration’, which involves commencing medication and cautiously increasing the dose until the correct dose is achieved.

A GP referral, including an ‘Agreement in Principle’ from your NHS GP regarding a future Shared Care Agreement with New Forest Psychiatry is required prior to the process commencing.

Upon completion of your medical titration, a written letter and a Shared Care Agreement is then produced and signed by both New Forest Psychiatry and your GP. This details the roles and responsibilities in relation to your care and support moving forward.

If your GP does not support Shared Care Agreements, New Forest Psychiatry will discuss your situation with you and can offer alternative options.

A medical titration involves starting you on a medication and then gradually increasing your dose in order to safely confirm the correct dose for you, which is based on both its effectiveness and how you tolerate it.

The whole process is includes an appointment to discuss medication options (60 minutes), a series of subsequent telephone calls over the following weeks to determine effectiveness and how well you are tolerating the medication, as well as postage and packing costs of sending controlled/non-controlled drug prescriptions. New Forest Psychiatry utilises Pharmacierge as its main pharmacy provider for medication.
